In the iGetBetter Podcast, we discuss topics related to life, love, spiritual, mental, and emotional health and how we can ALL get better, together. The show is hosted by Charlene Rene and Phedra Smith, two friends and therapists, who are the founders and operators of private practice therapy offices in their local communities. We discuss personal life challenges and successes as well as community issues and work to raise awareness about mental health disorders and treatment options while also answering questions from listeners. This & That: Church. HURT.
The words church and hurt don’t seem like they should belong together. Sadly, they often walk side by side in your journey and faith walk. As individuals navigate their spiritual paths, the intersection of these two words can evoke a range of emotions and experiences.
Naked Truths: Church. HURT.
My uncle and family pastor from my childhood church use to say "I'm going to tell you the butt-naked truth". He referred to these types of truths to help the congregants to realize that there are different ways to try to relay truth but ultimately his version would not bend corners or add any coverings. You would and should never misunderstand what he said because he would "make it plain".
Church. HURT.
Hurt is a small word that has a big impact and implication depending on the type. When you add the word Church to it then it becomes way more complicated.
Fair Fighting…
Conflict and Confrontation don’t have to be scary. We can learn to approach one another with truth and love while also tackling uncomfortable topics. Sometimes the point isn’t to be right, it’s simply to use our voices in order to be heard and understood. Learning to be respectful while also disagreeing can be challenging but it’s not impossible.
Grief and Loss
Grief and Loss are difficult to navigate alone. It’s difficult to know what it looks like and how to walk through that season.
